Worked at : The Fiscal Policy Office, Ministry of Finance, Thailand
WORK SUMMARY Mr. Pisit Puapan, Ph.D. is currently Director of Macroeconomic Policy Division under the Fiscal Policy Office, Ministry of Finance, Thailand. In his current position, he is responsible for economic review, monitoring, forecast and macroeconomic and fiscal policy analysis under the Ministry of Finance. He regularly meets with IMF and credit rating agencies to hold policy discussion and dialogue on behalf of the Ministry. Since joining the government in 1998, he has been delegated to work on various assignments within the Ministry. His first assignment was with the Public Debt Management Office responsible for bilateral loan negotiation. In 2001, he performed analyses on financial sector and trade liberalization under the ASEAN and APEC frameworks. He was the primary official responsible for the implementation of ASEAN+3 Bilateral Swap Arrangement (BSA) under the Chiang Mai Initiative. During 2003-2005, Dr. Pisit was assigned to Government Expenditures Policy Section, Bureau of Fiscal Policy, and handled the preparatory process of the Thai government’s annual budget. ORGANIZATION SUMMARY The Fiscal Policy Office is a Department under the Ministry of Finance of Thailand. Founded on 18 October 1961 as the main government agency responsible for formulation of fiscal policy and public financial policy management, the organization now operates under 4 strategic missions: (1) To study, analyze, and advise economic and fiscal policies, finance, savings, investment, capital market development and protection of financial system, macroeconomics and the international economy (2) To monitor, supervise and evaluate implementation of economic policies and measures, as well as formulating recommendations to improve policy implementation (3) To raise awareness, understanding and recognition of policies and performances of the Fiscal Policy Office among target groups, the general public, agencies in-country and abroad (4) To strive for modernized management, and make continuous efforts to enhance institutional capacity and quality.
