Abstract : Tea heritage related tourism has the potential to enhance the health, well-being and depth of experience for tourists and improve the livelihoods of tea communities, farmers and villagers in tea producing regions. However, to achieve transformative heritage tourism this niche form of tourism needs to be sustainably developed, implemented and marketed. The consumption of tea has known health benefits and tea growing areas visited are typically rural and green, with lush vegetation and other flowers and plants, providing mentally calming environments for co-creation between guests and hosts. For tea business enterprises tea heritage tourism thorough for example, tours, courses, workshops, gastronomy and cuisine offers the opportunity for diversification and sustainability of business, the workforce and local tea communities. A unique situation exists in Northern Thailand where tea companies closely connected with their communities are growing and producing tea and diversifying by providing tea heritage tourism and education opportunities. These experiential products have the potential for positive local economic impacts, sustainability and the transformation of both visitors and communities. This chapter provides a snapshot of developments in this region, identifying tea traditions and then highlighting tea related businesses, inventorying and comparing their activities related to transformative heritage tourism. Lessons derived from the analysis should be of interest to those wishing to sustainably develop and market tea heritage tourism in other growing regions.
